About Me and My Clinical Approach

Dr. Tracy L. Hackett, DAOM

Tracy L. Hackett, DAOM, NCCAOM Dipl. OM is a Florida Department of Health board-certified Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (that’s me!) and nationally certified as a Diplomate of OM with the NCCAOM.

I have earned my clinical doctorate in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) at American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, California Institute of Integrative Studies (CiiS) in San Francisco, California. I have received my Master’s of Science degree for TCM at the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, San Francisco, CA, in 2005.

I have completed my clinical rounds at TCM hospitals settings in Hang Zhou, China including Zhejiang Chinese Medical University Hospital and Red Cross Hospital, Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China (2005, 2013). I have also completed observation rounds at the Pain and Palliative Care Unit at the NIH in Bethesda, MD (2013), and California Pacific Medical Center, UCSF Medical Center, San Francisco, CA (2003-04), Sutter Health, Oakland, CA (2004), Women’s Cancer Resource Center, Oakland, CA, (2003) and Quan Yin Healing Arts, SF, under the auspices of Beverly Burns.(2004)

I was the acupuncturist for a beloved Rinpoche (teacher/lama) of the Drikung Kagyu lineage and practiced in his community clinic for his resident monks and nuns in Kathmandu, Nepal, as well as at the Lamayuru monastery, Ladakh, India (2006-07).

I have studied healing arts throughout Asia for many years. I have taught various forms of yoga since 1997 and have been an avid meditator since early childhood. I teach all of my patients some form of meditation. We work to encourage what you already know in practice or I can help the complete beginner find a sensible entry point to discover the amazing benefits of meditation.

I have extensive experience treating many health conditions through systems-based medicine since 2005.

Philosophy and Approach to Healing

I’ve studied and practiced traditional healing methods, yoga, meditation, herbalism, and nutrition in India, Thailand, Bali, Nepal, and China. Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurveda both have deep connections to the roots of Buddhism. This constellation of modalities has become cornerstone to the way I work delivering energy medicine, acupuncture, herbal medicine, and systems-based functional medicine.

At its core, Traditional Chinese Medicine relies on differential diagnosis, a systems-based approach to evaluating health conditions. While Eastern medicine is significant, understanding how to develop protocols for optimal health also requires insights from Western functional medicine. I assess your existing lab results and scan reports to establish a baseline of your health. If needed, I may suggest additional testing, but typically, we begin with our intake process to initiate a protocol. Often, those who consult with me have undergone numerous tests; we use these as a starting point and proceed to order further tests as required.

This photo captures me, Dr. Tracy, in 2000, creating a mural of the Vishwaroopa on a temple ceiling in Kerala, India. The year-long project was a component of my Bachelor’s degree (High Honors) in Interdisciplinary Studies at the University of Florida. It stands as one of the most fulfilling achievements of my life. This endeavor also included learning Sanskrit, studying Ayurveda, and mastering some incredible curry recipes!
